Palate Expander

A palate expander is a fixed or removable orthodontic device used mainly in children and adolescents to widen the upper jaw. It acts on the median palatal suture, still active during growth, gradually broadening the upper dental arch and creating the space needed for correct tooth alignment.

Early intervention with a palate expander can prevent tooth extractions in the future, improve nasal breathing, and promote harmonious facial development. Treatment is planned on the basis of a cephalometric analysis and digital dental models.

Why choose a palate expander

Effective early intervention

Acting during growth makes it possible to exploit the bone plasticity of the palate, making expansion faster, less invasive, and often permanent.

Improves breathing

Widening the upper jaw increases the volume of the nasal cavities, promoting nasal breathing and reducing nighttime apnoea in children.

Avoids future extractions

Creating space in the dental arch during growth can eliminate the need to extract permanent teeth at a later stage.

Harmonious facial development

An adequately developed palate promotes balanced growth of facial structures, contributing to overall profile harmony.
