Invisible aligners: the smile you've always wanted

Invisible aligners are clear, custom-made orthodontic trays that gradually move your teeth without the bulk and discomfort of traditional fixed braces. At Fastuca Ortodonzia in Mendrisio I work with the most clinically established aligner systems, including Invisalign®, and I plan every case digitally, starting from a 3D scan of your mouth.

Treatments

The invisible aligner journey, step by step

An effective treatment with invisible aligners starts with accurate clinical planning. Here is how it works at my Mendrisio clinic.

1. Initial orthodontic visit

During the first visit I assess your clinical situation, listen to your expectations and explain whether invisible aligners are the most suitable solution for your case, which system we could use (for example Invisalign®) and whether another orthodontic technique would be a better fit instead.

2. 3D digital scan

With an intraoral scanner I take a precise digital impression, with no materials in your mouth. The scan is the starting point for designing your personalised aligner plan.

3. Personalised digital plan

Based on the scan I prepare a digital treatment plan (for Invisalign® I use the ClinCheck® software) where, even before starting, we can see how your teeth will move and what the final smile will look like.

4. Aligner delivery

You will receive a series of custom trays to wear about 22 hours a day, replacing them every 1–2 weeks. I will follow you with periodic check-ups to make sure the treatment is on track.

5. Final retention

Once the result is achieved, I apply a fixed or removable retainer to stabilise the smile over time. This phase is essential to prevent teeth from returning to their original position.

Invisible Aligners

Why choose invisible aligners

Practically invisible

The trays are clear: most people will not even notice you are undergoing orthodontic treatment, even during business meetings or important occasions.

Removable when you wish

You can take them out to eat, drink coffee or wine, brush your teeth, or for special occasions. No food restrictions and no everyday inconvenience.

Predictable result

Thanks to digital planning (ClinCheck® for Invisalign®) you can see the final outcome before starting treatment. Every tooth movement is studied and controlled.

Superior comfort

Without brackets or metal wires, the aligners do not irritate lips and gums. Treatment is more comfortable than fixed braces, both day and night.

Treatable Cases

What invisible aligners can correct

Invisible aligners (including Invisalign®) can treat most orthodontic cases, from the simplest to the most complex. Among the most common cases I treat in my clinic:

Dental crowding

When teeth do not have enough space and overlap, the aligners realign them to restore a naturally beautiful smile.

Spaces and diastemas

Gaps between teeth, including between the upper incisors, can be gradually closed with a personalised aligner plan.

Deep bite

When the upper teeth cover the lower ones too much, the aligners help rebalance the relationship between the arches.

Crossbite

One of the most frequent indications: aligners reposition the teeth, correcting lateral or anterior crossbites.

Open bite

In open bite cases the aligners can be combined with elastics and targeted attachments to restore contact between the teeth.

Post-orthodontic relapse

If you have already had orthodontic treatment and your teeth have shifted again, invisible aligners are ideal for a discreet second alignment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about invisible aligners

How long does treatment with invisible aligners take?

The average duration of treatment with invisible aligners ranges from 6 to 18 months, but it depends on the complexity of the case. Simple aesthetic alignment cases may take less time, while cases involving bite correction or larger movements can last up to 24 months. During the first visit I will give you a realistic estimate of your treatment duration.

How much does treatment with invisible aligners cost in Mendrisio?

The cost varies depending on the complexity of the case, the aligner system used (e.g. Invisalign®), the number of trays needed and the duration of treatment. The price includes digital planning, all sets of trays and periodic check-ups. During the first visit I will provide you with a detailed quote tailored to your specific case.

Are invisible aligners painful?

Invisible aligners are generally more comfortable than fixed braces. During the first two or three days of each new tray it is normal to feel mild pressure or sensitivity, which simply means that the aligners are working. There are no wires or brackets to irritate lips and cheeks.

Can I remove the aligners to eat?

Yes, and you should. Aligners must be removed to eat and drink anything other than water, and need to be worn at least 22 hours a day. This means great dietary freedom during treatment, but it requires discipline in putting the aligners back on right after meals.

Which aligner systems do you use?

In my clinic I work with several invisible aligner systems, chosen case by case based on each patient's clinical needs. Among them, Invisalign® is one of the most established systems, with documented clinical experience over more than 20 years and a well-developed digital planning technology (ClinCheck®). The most relevant difference often does not lie in the tray itself, but in the expertise of the specialist who designs the treatment and follows every step.

Do invisible aligners work for adults?

Absolutely. Most patients I treat with invisible aligners are adults between 25 and 60, professionals who want to align their teeth without the treatment being visible at work or in social settings. It is one of the most chosen solutions for adults who did not have orthodontics as children, or who have experienced relapse.
