Lingual Orthodontics
Lingual orthodontics is the solution for those who wish to correct tooth alignment in a completely discreet way. Brackets are positioned on the inner (lingual) side of the teeth, making them completely invisible from the outside.
Unlike removable aligners, lingual brackets are fixed and active 24 hours a day, allowing high effectiveness even in complex cases. Each bracket is customised and positioned with millimetre precision: this is a treatment that I follow with particular care, having developed specific expertise during my training.

How treatment works at my practice in Mendrisio
Lingual orthodontics requires careful planning and specific expertise. These are the main stages of the journey, from the first visit to your final smile.
First visit and case study
I assess your clinical situation with an examination, photographs and X-rays, and check whether lingual orthodontics is the right technique for your case.
Digital scan and planning
Using a 3D intraoral scan, I plan the position of each bracket on the inner side of the teeth with millimetre precision.
Fitting the appliance
The customised brackets are bonded to the lingual side using a transfer tray: invisible from the outside from day one.
Regular check-ups and retention
Regular appointments at my Mendrisio practice to activate the appliance and monitor progress, followed by the retention phase to stabilise the result.
Lingual braces or clear aligners?
Both options are aesthetic, but they meet different needs: lingual braces are fixed and work 24 hours a day, ideal even for complex cases; aligners are removable and easier to manage day to day. At the first visit we will assess together which option suits you best.

Frequently asked questions about lingual orthodontics
Are lingual braces really invisible?
Yes: the brackets are bonded to the inner side of the teeth and cannot be seen from the outside, even up close. It is the only completely invisible fixed orthodontic technique.
How do you clean lingual braces?
Hygiene requires a little extra care: a soft-bristled toothbrush, interdental brushes and, if possible, a water flosser. At each check-up I always review your oral hygiene and give you personalised advice.
Do lingual braces affect the tongue or speech?
An adjustment period with mild tongue discomfort and some effect on speech is normal in the first days. With the latest low-profile brackets, most patients adapt within one to two weeks.
Is lingual orthodontics suitable for everyone?
The lingual technique can treat most orthodontic cases in adults and teenagers, including complex ones. Suitability is assessed at the first visit.
How long does treatment take?
On average 12 to 24 months, depending on the complexity of the case. As a fixed appliance, it works continuously and does not rely on patient compliance.
